Map And Compass is an outdoor pursuits company for outdoor pursuits people, run by outdoor pursuits people. Our range, whilst it is continually growing, is centred around expedition work, whether it be the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, Guides, Scouts, Cadets or local authorities.

Our discounts and why we are different

We strive to provide an attractive range of discounts to suit the type of order you or your organisation tends to order. Even if you only a few maps from us each year you will soon find yourself on one of the better discount structures.

Youth Organisations such as Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh's Award

For certain youth organisations we offer the benefit of the best tiers of our discount structures up front. To apply for an account with Map And Compass please click here. Account customers, once approved, move onto a higher discount tier straight away, we will advise you of this tier once your application has been accepted. One of the conditions of being granted an account is that you nominate one person within your organisation (with a valid email address and contact telephone numbers, one of which must be a landline) to order for your organisation each time. This reduces our administrative overhead which means we can continue to offer excellent prices and service levels.

Annual Discount - how it works

Take, Ordnance Survey Maps, for example, the discount structure is:

If you order two maps with your first order, you'll recieve a 25% discount off the price, if, then you later order another 4 maps, you enter the 6+ category and so for that second order receive a 26% discount off the whole order. Your discount remains with you so long as you use the same login details each time you visit our website. Discounts apply per brand, this is so that we can offer you more discount the more of that brand you buy. Because we oeprate at different levels with each of the brands on the site we are unable to offer the discount that you have on one product on another product. For example, you may be on the maximum discount level for Silva compasses, but, unfortunately, if you haven't purchased any Harvey Maps, you will need to start accumulating discount for Harvey Maps. At the end of each year we take look at how much you have spent with us and offer you a tier of discount based on the amount you have spent with us, you will normally receive an email in early January informing you of how much ongoing discount you qualify for. Whenever you login to the site your prices will be shown with your tier of discount already applied.

Making A Purchase

You can order online, 24 hours a day using our checkout. Our checkout and payment provider is Google, one of the biggest names on the internet. Google Checkout gives you and us many levels of security not offered by other payment service providers and is probably the best payment service provider on the internet (for you and for us).

Most products are held in stock and we normally despatch them the same day that you order them, the cut off time for orders going out the same day is 3pm, any order received after this will be sent the next working day (working days are Monday to Friday excluding weekends and public holidays). We will contact you if we are not going to despatch goods to you within a reasonable timescale (usually this will be by first class post or by a courier, depending on the size of your order. However, please allow 10 days for delivery. If delivery of any goods ordered is expected to exceed 10 days, we shall notify you using the contact details you supplied when ordering.

Cancelling an order

You may cancel your order at any time prior to your order being processed by contacting Map And Compass (click here for our contact us form).

Who we deliver to

We deliver to UK addresses only. In exceptional circumstances we will ship to overseas addresses, but full payment by way of an electronic transfer will be required in advance of us doing so.

If you are paying by credit or debit card we will deliver to your home address, this is to avoid credit card fraud, it helps protect you and us. If you are paying by purchase order and you haven't ordered from us before we will call you by telephone on both your direct line and your switchboard before despatching your goods. This, again, is to prevent fraud.

If you wish to report an item which is undelivered, you must do so within 10 days of us sending our despatch email to you. We will not discuss undelivered items after this time, unless there was a substantial delay in despatching the products book for any reason.

Back Orders

If your item is not in stock, we will back order for you. You will always be emailed with the option to cancel your order if you would rather not wait.

Tax Charges

For orders made from the UK or the European Union, Maps are 0% rated - all other products include a 17.5% VAT charge

Credit Card Security

Credit card details are handled by Google, we never see them. You will never receive a telephone call or email from us asking for your credit or debit card information as long as you are comfortable ordering over the web. If you wish to order over the telephone then we will destroy your card details once the transaction has been processed.

Privacy Policy

Map And Compass will not pass on your personal information to third parties.

Returns Policy

We barcode scan every despatch and a label cannot be printed if the order is incorrect or malformed. In the unlikely event that we provide you with an incorrect item, please contact us to discuss the best means of return. We shall reimburse you for the item and return postage.

If you want to return an item for any other reason, you may do so within 14 days of receipt. We shall refund the cost of the goods, providing the goods are in perfect resalable condition. We reserve the right to charge a re-stocking fee of 20% of the value of the goods under these circumstances. If the product has been opened or used we are unable to take the goods back and you will be liable for the full cost of the goods. We do not reimburse postage costs if you are returning goods that you have ordered and we have delivered in good faith.

In all cases, returns authorisation must be granted by Map And Compass prior to returning goods.

All orders placed online must be paid for before we despatch your order. Customers paying by invoice will be advised of credit terms apon application.
