1066 Country Walk Maps

In 1066, William the Conqueror invaded Pevensey in East Sussex and went on to defeat King Harold in the town of Battle known as the battle of Hastings.

The 1066 Country Walk passes through Pevensey and Rye via the town of Battle. The walk is a low level walk.  The length of the 1066 Country Walk is 50km route. Links with the Saxon Shore Way at Rye to the east, and the South Downs Way at Alfriston to the west provide a perfect opportunity to venture even further by connecting into these other routes. There are also established links joining the main Pevensey/Rye route beginning from Bexhill on Sea and Hastings, thus giving the walker some flexibility in a choice of starting location.
